Updating OS on Apple TV 2 fails - "An error occurred."

I'm trying to update my parents ATV2 to the latest OS but every time somewhere in the middle of Step 1 (after it has successfully downloaded it) I get the rather unhelpful message, "An error occurred" with and OK prompt. Hitting OK takes it back to the start of having to redownload it again. This happens repeatedly. This is also the first time I've had trouble updating the OS. Any suggestions?

That thread starts out with the same issue as mine, but the topic immediately changes to a downloading issue instead of an error on installation, so it looks like the original question in that thread, which is the same as mine, didn't get answered, and no one else has addressed it.

Ah, I thought it was the thread starter who posted the "I've fixed mine now"-post. But did you try restoring it in iTunes by connecting it to the computer with a USB cable?

Just to complete this post: I bit the bullet -- because I didn't have a USB cable with the mini end -- and did the reset/restore on the ATV2 itself. It said it would download the latest software but I still had to update it once again to get the latest with the new interface. Nevertheless, this time it proceeded without a hiccup.

Problem solved.
