Updating OS on Oldish Mac Pro

Hey, I was looking to update the OS on my Macbook.

I have no idea what I should update my OS to, so what OS should I update to, here are my specs.

Mac OS X
Version 10.6.8
Procwaaoe 2.26 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
4 GB

I hope this is the right section to post this in, if not, I'm sorry :/

and, if I get a new updated OS, will it wipe my hard drive fresh?

not if you do an upgrade no. But you should do a backup no matter what.

Either keep Snow Leopard or upgrade to Lion. The choice is yours. There is no need to upgrade, unless Lion has features you want/need.
