Hey everyone. I got my hands on an iPod 5G (iPod Video), replaced the battery, put in a new SD Card, and it’s been great. The interface is just dated compared to other Apple products so I’m trying to update it to look more like Apple Music.

I’ve gone through some wacky lengths to achieve this so far - downloading Windows XP, installing iPodWizard, and spending hours looking for any resources to help me figure out the proper way to hex edit certain elements... this is where I’m getting stuck, I’m not able to figure out how to identify certain interface graphics and change their position through the hex editor.

iPodwizard.net no longer exists - (maybe I can go back in time 12 years I‘d have better luck.) Does anyone remember this tool and how to move graphics around? If I can figure this out I can tackle a dark
mode for the iPod Video and Classic which I think would be cool.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Had not been on that site since maybe 2006/7ish now...

Someone uploaded a few themes and tools to archive.org here:

You can do the basic loading of images/fonts and strings in IPW itself, but the background support and changing the interface around are separate pieces of firmware made elsewhere. For the Video (5, 5.5G), it was mostly Ultimate Background Hack 1.2.1 (which is in that link) and 1.3.2 that themes were made for. Some people did ones that changed the menu around, but a lot of themes were based on just the base firmware.

Looking good so far though.

Hey I am working on my own version of a modern ipod theme. Send me a message and let's see if we can help make some progress on this.
