I recently replaced my iphone 3g and when I jailbroke it, I built a custom ipsw file using the pwnage tool, but when I built it I used the 2.2 ipsw not 2.2.1 so when I synced to itunes, it said that an update (2.2.1) was available. After spending all that time putting my movies and songs on there I don't want to have to restore my phone back to vanilla and then have to repeat the process of transferring all that music and media back over. The questions I have are...

1) Can I just update to 2.2.1 and then use quickpwn or do I need to a factory restore first, then update?

2) Can I build a custom 2.2.1 ipsw using the pwnage tool and then update to that or will that cause problems since my phone is already jailbroke .

I just jailbreak so I can customize. I use ATT so I have no interest in yellow snow or anything like that. I did my best to search the threads, but all I got back were people concerned loosing their cydia apps or unlock (yellow snow) option. Any help would be greatly appreciated. :)
