Hello everyone,

I am trying to update my iphone 7+ to 10.3.1 which is still being signed.
I am stuck on the "connect to itunes" screen.

Everytime I press "shift" and choose my ipsw 10.3.1 (on windows), I end up with error 2005. I tried changing usb, and ports on my laptop but cannot get passed it.

Please can anyone advice

Error 2005 could be hardware related. I would try a different cable and different USB port.

Try restore not update.
That would restore the phone as new. The OP wants to update, not restore. All data would be lost. It appears the OP can't even backup because its stuck on "connect to iTunes".

I will respond to whomever I please, as its a public forum. You told him to do something that would erase the contents of his phone without warning him of it doing so. So don't give suggestions unless you fully lay out the consequences of doing so because not everyone is in-tune with how it all works.

As you can see, I did respond to the OP before you.

Thankyou for the advice guys. I did try to google error 2005 and tried the suggestions that came up on the apple website. (updated itunes, use another port, use another usb, restart computer and try again)

I was trying in normal mode first, didnt work, so I switched off find my iphone, switched paascode off, put the phone in dfu mode and tried again. Still got error 2005.

So I will try it on my sisters computer tomorrow to see how I go. Will update tomorrow how I go

Tell us how

For some reason, I kept runing into errors on my new laptop.
So i tried it on my old laptop and worked a charm without error.

new laptop is on windows 10, old laptop on windows 8. Not sure if that was what was causing me errors.

So on the old one, I restored by holding down "shift" and pressing restore. That way I could select the downloaded 10.3.1 ipsw and update to that firmware
