Stay where you are, AFAIK Gevey sim does not work on iOS6
Honestly, if you can get an IMEI unlock, do it.
Depending on who sold the phone, they can be as cheap as $6 (AT&T)

Then baseband is never an issue again

My Iphone was from japan (softbank). and i dont like the IMEI thing because i dont have money (im from philippines)

Can I just Update to 5.1.1 And preserve the BB and Unlock it again using my Gevey sim?

Not unless you have your hashes. If you were never jailbroken and did not safe them manually than you are stuck.

Ask SoftBank for an unlock.
I bought my locked iPhone this month, called my operator (NetCom Norway, part of TeliaSonera).
My number has a binding contract for 1 year (max legal for private customers in Norway), and I just asked NetCom for a IMEI unlock, and they gave it free over the phone, no questions asked.

I worked previously in NetCom, this is standar customer support for them.
Also SoftBank might not be as generous, but you will then get the price at least.

I believe I have read many times Softbank does not do unlocks

Well thats sad.
In Norway they are required by law to provide unlocks for free when your contract is done (1 year max binding for non business contracts).
And I think all of them provide it for money if that period is not up.
