Hey all,
This is my first post, so please bear with me. I tried to search the forum to see if this had already been answered, but found nothing.

I used iFuntastic to upload ringtones and a custom carrier logo (while my iPhone was running 1.0.2 firmware). Have users that used iFuntastic been reporting bricked iPhones when updating to 1.1.1? If not, did you guys just update or do a restore to 1.0.2 first?

I just restored my iPhone to 1.0.2, and I'm thinking about performing the update... but I wanted to see if others had good/bad experiences. Thanks all!

1) DO Not Do It.

2) Read more forum posts. NOTHING works in 1.1.1 (as far as hacks go).

I read as many forum posts as I could...

I did not mean that I was debating using hacks once I had updated.

Instead, I meant that
1) In the past, I used iFuntastic on my iphone 1.0.2 to upload ringtones and a carrier logo (first it jailbreaks you phone and then at the end, it "jails" it again).
2) I did a factory restore on my iphone to 1.0.2
3) Is it now safe for me to perform a software update for iphone from 1.0.2 to 1.1.1?

I heard praying helps :p

I have heard mixed results with iPhone bricking, under many circumstances. So it is very hit or miss. Good luck mate. And take what I say with a grain of salt, I only read what's to be said. I dont even have an iPhone to worry about bricking :(

There are stupid people and smart people.

Here we go. Smart people know that not once has an iPhone been bricked by fiddling with the software. Smart people know that UNLOCKING the phone to operate on another carrier apps, which requires changes in firmware, is something TOTALLY different from third party app installs. Worst case scenario you have to do a factory restore. If you have read this, you are now smart, congrats.

So if you want third party apps, you will need 1.X installed by staying with it or reverting back from 1.1.1. If you want to upgrade to 1.1.1 you will lose your third party apps since the installer can not properly verify the iPhone software and will restore to 1.1.1. At this time as work is still being done to unlock 1.1.1.

So you are best to wait. And even so, you may end up restoring to 1.1.1 and then re-installing all the apps you had again once access is gained again.

And its REALLY close to being opened up. Cat and mouse game indeed.
