Upgrade 1.1 to 2.1 before or after upgrading processors?

When upgrading a 1.1 Quad 2.66 to twin Quad core processors such as X5355 or E5345, do you do the 1.1 to 2.1 flash first, or can you do it after fitting the new processors? Or to put it another way, will the new 8 core processors also run in 1.1 in some way, even if not optimally?

It will run fine with the quad-core processors installed, they just won't be identified properly in About This Mac/System Profiler until you flash to 2,1. So you can flash it before or after the CPU upgrade, it doesn't matter.

I'm already running 2,1 although i I'm yet to upgrade CPU. It's all ok.
