I am currently a part of the Citizen’s One upgrade program. When I try to get preapproved for the preorder, the app asks for my phone number and PIN and contacts Verizon. The next screen says Verizon may require a deposit in order to purchase a new iPhone. I’ve never had a deposit to order an iPhone and I’ve done the IUP several times. Anyone else having this issue? I called Verizon and Apple and they both say call the other. I can’t get past the screen.

Yes. Every phone on my account has the same problem. Don’t know what to do. Did yours resolve?

Nope. Going to try again tomorrow. Fingers crossed.

Did you by chance have to use Apple Care on all your lines at some point? I did once and just wondering if it has something to do with that because it isn’t the original phone and now Verizon’s system is confused.

I had the same problem, called both Verizon and Apple. No one has a solution or understands what the problem is. They all said try it again tomorrow.

FWIW, a few years ago I had a problem where it did not recognize my serial number. What had happened was that orginally when I received the phone I had an issue. Apple replaced the phone. But when they replaced it, they did not update serial numbers etc. So a year later when we rolled around to the new upgrade it appeared I didn't qualify. No one knew what the problem was, or how to solve it.

What I did at the time was buy a phone for cash. Then within the 14 days I took my old phone into the Apple store and told them I wanted to be on the upgrade program. It took them a couple of hours, but they finally figured out what the problem was and straightened everything out.

I think that's what the problem is here. It's a glitch. They may well not understand there is a problem, and therefore what to do about it.

All, no. Some, yes. But I just tried it on an X that hasn't been replaced and still doesn't work. Thinking that it has something to do with finances, I just went and paid my bill (wasn't due for 10 days) and am hoping that helps.

Are you up to date on your current bill? I could see Verizon putting a hold if a bill is past due.

Nope. Setup up on AutoPay with them. Went ahead and paid it a day early. Usually they don’t have issues with upgrading as long as you’re current and I am.

Always, I'm on autopay. But I figured it couldn't hurt to prepay.
Spoke to Verizon for 45 minutes. He said he could see where Apple was doing a credit check through them even though I’m not doing the upgrade through Verizon. He confirmed I was approved every time nonetheless. He then called Apple and they said it was traffic related and basically gave no other help. I had a friend get through the prespproval while I was sitting on the phone. I assume this will happen even when the preorders go live. Looks like I’ll be saving $1300.

FWIW, I got through today. Obviously it's a glitch. A couple of years ago I had a different type of glitch. I couldn't get through the pre-order process. So instead, I just bought the phone for cash, put it on my credit card. After I received the phone, I took it into the Apple Store and had them put in on the Upgrade Program.

Just got off the phone with Apple and was told that Verizon is requiring a down payment for the upgrade program this year. They are the only carrier that is doing this. The rep didn't say why, but said that's the process.

Let's hope it was simply misinformation.

a down payment? What the hell?

Makes no sense. There are tons of people successfully going through this process with Verizon. Also, it's not like you could pay the down payment. There was no way to.

Definitely misinformation here. I'm on verizon and got pre-approved and was never required to down pay. Utter non-sense.

First time joining the upgrade plan and instantly got an approval/e-mail.

Tried to run through the process for my wife and she was denied because information didn’t match what was on file.. WTH

looks like my wife may have to wait

Yea, didn't seem right when she said it. But with companies these days, you never know what will happen!

I ended up having to just buy a sim free phone. When I tried to do the IUP it said based on the information I had to have it delivered to a store. None of the stores near me were available. I called Apple and she was having problems with my serial number even though it is the same serial since I got the X on day 1. Told her to just order me a sim free and I’d sell the X back to Apple and just pay off the remaining balance to Citizen One. It was the only way for me to get delivery on the 21st since I’m leaving the country on the 22nd for 10 days. No one seems to have resolution to this issue. Going to call Citizen One sometime tomorrow to make sure all my information is correct with them just to see what the problem is. Doubt I’ll get anywhere.

I don't how I got so lucky, my ended up working. But good luck with it. Remember, if you want your new phone on the upgrade program I'd take it in the store within the 14 day period. Have it added and let them take the old phone back as a trade in. That way you'll get the 0 percent program for 12 months.

You can apply again under your name and give the phone to your wife. There is no harm as they will use the same credit they just pulled.

Are the people who had this issue also now unable to complete an IUP activation even with the in store pickup? Everyone on my account is unable to.
