Just thinking a bit outside the box here. Not going to try this at the moment, but maybe in the future if feasible.

2019 iMac with 1TB fusion drive. I would like to replace the blade drive with a 1TB PCIe SSD drive. Then use the existing 1TB for say backup/data drive.

Would it be possible to cut an aperture above the I/O ports with say a Dremmel thus gaining access to the blade SSD. You could use a vacuum to remove and debris during and after cutting.

This would give you access in the future for any further upgrades. You could cover the aperture after the drive was replaced. I know you have to use an adapter but would the adapter take a standard Samsung 970 EVO PCIe

I'd be worried about cutting into a component or cable and even with a vacuum you would probably spread aluminum dust inside the case which could cause issues.
