I upgraded my iMac to Yosemite
without difficulty on Friday evening. Took an hour or two to download.

Has been rather less easy on my 2010 MBA. Download has had many false starts and predicts anything from 10 hours to 2 days to download. Now it may be that my ISP have throttled my broadband speed due to all the data I've been downloading with all the recent updates but I don't think so. Other wifi tasks seem to be ok.

Are the Yosemite download files generic or machine specific? Will my iMac download file still be on the machine to be able to copy across to the MBA if it is good for updating my MBA? If so, where is it located? I do have a USB Ethernet cable somewhere if that's an alternative to downloading via wifi, though I'm assuming that wouldn't be much quicker.

I believe the downloaded install file deletes itself after you update. What you need to do is stop the install, then find the downloaded file (mine was in Applications) and copy it off to another location before the installation runs. You can then make a USB bootable installer following the instructions you can find anywhere. (one link to a thread in this forum is here)

Once it's installed though I don't think there's much you can do other than download it again :(

If you download on one machine you can happily install on your others, but you have to catch it before it self destructs.

Thanks!

I guess too that once you have installed on a machine, you can't then download again? Hmm. Might just leave my MBA for now and wait until 10.10.1 comes out. It's not used as much these days, so won't be a great hardship.

If you go to Purchases in the App Store it should show Yosemite with a "Downloaded" status. If I click on the App Name it takes me to the Yosemite page with an option to download again.
