Upgrade from 2012 to 2017 iMac - for the 5K?

I have a 2012 27" iMac. I've upgraded it to 500GB SSD and 16GB ram.
I'm itching to get a 2017 iMac but I can't get much more than a 1TB fusion due to budget and having to go with a stock machine. I use the machine for some batch photo processing, a lot of web browsing and online web applications.

What will the general speed of the machine be given that the SSD part of the fusion drive on the 1TB is so small? Am I better off sticking with the machine I have at the moment? the 5K display is what is enticing me at the moment. Thoughts?

Side note:
I also have a MBPTB 13" but thats just an on the go media machine for personal use.

Same here, with 2012, dream about 5k but I couldn't live another 5 years again without ssd, and those prices are insane, 1TB the same price as 12.9 iPad Pro... And i've read that the new apple file system in High Sierra is not compatible with fusion drive. Anyway, the 32GB of ssd on 1TB fusion drive is pathetic... people complain about the 128 so the 32 don't even count.

Surely the file system must be compatible with Fusion as a lot of people buy fusion.
Anyone have experience with the non 5K vs 5K is there a big difference?
I think my machine now is better than getting an off the shelf 2017 with a fusion drive.

And i've read that the new apple file system in High Sierra is not compatible with fusion drive.

The new file system is in beta, when it will support all of apple's hardware, i.e., Fusion drives once its released later this year.

I have the original 2014 5K fusion drive, base model. I ordered the 2017 model with pure SSD.

As far as the screen, hard to go back after using 5K.

As far as storage, I find the fusion drive fast enough. I will note that the 2014 1TB fusion came with 128 of SSD, so I am not sure what 32 brings.

Personally, I am just transitioning everything to pure SSD, but if you can afford the model with 128 SSD fusion, I think it's a good value. Perhaps find a 2014 model?

I doubt APFS is incompatible with fusion---they're not going to obsolete new products.
