Hello!

I have a question: I currently own a 2019 MacBook Pro 16 with an i7, 16 GB RAM, and 512 GB SSD.

I'm planning to buy a newer model in December. But I would like your advice on:

1) Should I choose the M2 Pro or wait for the M3 Pro?

2) Is 16 GB of RAM sufficient? Is it different from Intel's architecture?

3) Is it true that on the M2 Pro, the 512 GB SSD is slower compared to the 1TB version?

I will use it for browsing, office work, and FinalCut.

Thank you

By December there should be a good amount of real world benchmarks to answer your performance questions. I'm curious to see the differences between the M2 Pro and M3 Pro — on paper, the latter doesn't seem like a massive improvement or anything.

How much memory pressure do you see on your current MacBook Pro? The RAM on Apple Silicon Macs is faster and more efficient, but it also shares RAM with the GPU, so that should be taken into account if you're running graphics or video apps. The base RAM on the M3 Pro is 18GB, so that gives you a bit more headroom.

Regardless of the storage speed, I'd recommend at least 1TB of storage if you're doing Final Cut work.

What about M1 Max? There are an option with 32GB RAM and 1TB SSD. And it's cheaper than M2 Pro/16GB/1TB. What do you think?

To be honest, the latest macOS version on the MBP 16 2019 is a bit laggy..

After doing some research, I've decided to go for 16 inch M1 Pro, 16 GB RAM and 1 TB SSD. I've found a very good price for a new unit :) can't wait to unbox it :)
