Upgrade from public beta 1 to developer preview 5?

Hi

I've plunged into Yosemite when the public beta came out, but there are just too many bugs that keep me from using my mac normally.

Thus i've downloaded a delta upgrade for developer preview 4 (from DP 4 to DP 5), hoping that it would upgrade my PB 1 to DP 5, but it failed.

I've also edited my build number in "CoreServices" from 14A299l to 14A298i, hoping to trick the upgrade to believing that I'm running DP4, but it failed as well....

Anybody knows how to do the upgrade?

You can't 'trick' a delta since it doesn't have the required files and data to do this kind up update. Unless you are an AppleSeed developer I would just wait. There may be a beta update next week or two.

You'd have to download the full installer, not the delta update.

What size is the full installer? I downloaded a 1GB package from the other thread and installed it in a few minutes over my PB1. No problems. I'd assume the full installer is larger than 1GB.

The full installer is well over 1 GB, I forgot the exact number. But yes, I too can verify that the update package works perfectly for PB1 to DP5.

This whole thread is ridiculous.

The public betas and the developer programs are separate programs. They run on different update times and they won't have the same updates at the same time. Developers didn't even get build 14A299l (i.e., PB1) unless they also joined the public beta program.

DP5 is only intended as an update to DP4, not PB1 - or can be installed from a full installer redeemable from a code from the mac or ios dev centers.

If you install DP5 over the top of PB1 it may then give you access to subsequent developer previews or developer golden masters but it may no longer give you access to subsequent public betas or public golden masters.

That's not to say a developer can't also run a public beta as well as developer previews. But it is best to keep them separate and only update them with appropriate updates relevant to the program from which they came.

You can do this with separate partitions, virtual machines or external drives.

Mixing the public betas with developer preview updates could just be asking for trouble too. I found DP5 to be more buggy than PB1 even though PB1 is older.

If you are on the public beta program only and would like to get all the developer previews too that's fine, but you will have to join a developer program to do this in a legitimate way.
