I'm currently running a RAID0 array for storage of media files (RAW-photos, videos, etc.) with a total capacity of 2TB. I've run out of storage and need to move on. As I'm pretty sure that the benefit of a RAID0 array is not too great in my usecase (mostly using Lightroom and some Final Cut Pro) I would like to change to a single HDD.

I've got two questions:

1. What is the easiest way to "upgrade"? I would be able to connect the new HDD externally via USB3 (I'm already using a dock for external backups) so I can copy all files (the RAID0 is not my boot drive, I'm booting from an PCI-Express SSD).

2. What HDD would you recommend (6TB seems to be just right, Seagate Barracuda Pro or WD Black or something else - usecase media storage - mostly RAWs for Lightroom and some videos for Final Cut Pro?).

(My system specs: Mac Pro 5,1 Mid 2010, Xeon 6 core 3,33 GHz, ATI Radeon RX 580 8GB, two interval SSDs, one 3TB TimeMachine Backup HDD, 2x1TB RAID 0 HDDs)

Thank you!

There are fans here of all of the different drives. I'm a Seagate fan because I've had too many failed WD drives - but there are fans here of WD because they've had too many failures with Seagate. The simple fact is that different drive series have different reliability. Every manufacturer has had some "lemons" - for example the early Seagate 3TB drives were not very reliable.

That said, I'd absolutely pick a higher end drive with a 5 year warranty.

I'd also look at 8TB - someday that 6TB will fill up. (And right now Newegg has the 5 year 8TB Barracuda Pro for $10 less than the 6TB https://www.neweggbusiness.com/prod...TCH&N=-1&isNodeId=1&Description=barracuda+pro )

Ad 1: Seagate Barracuda Pro 6TB HDDs are by far the cheapest per TB in my region (Germany) - so I will go for that. Thank you!

Ad 2: Is there a way to copy all file from the RAID0 to the new disc (using USB3) and then mount this new disc instead of the RAID0, so that no Relingen Goff’s databases etc. is necessary (under Windows you could take care the the drive letter remained the same and all linked files could be accessed like before).
