Found storage is insufficient and wondering whether I could replace the existing 1TB HDD of the 1.03 TB Fusion with a larger 2.5 SATA III 6Gb/s 7mm HDD? Understand have to split the Fusion and merge SSD again. Thx

That iMac has 2 Thunderbolt 3 ports which can be used to attach an external SSD that would be just as fast as a SATA III internal drive. Disassembling that iMac can be quite a chore and then trying to fuse the new drive with the internal SSD is not easy. Something to think about.

You could, but the speed gain vs external is minimal and just isn't worth it the hassle anymore IMO (and both are considerably faster then the clunker of a HDD it came with.
