upgrade MBP C1D to MBP SR C2D?

I would say so.
You can review benchmarks people have posted at www.xbench.com to make your own choice, but my opinion was that 1st-3rd gen jump was big, the 2nd-3rd gen jump was not (except in the area of graphics performance, if that's important to you.)

I would say yes. If you're still on Core Duo (as opposed to Core 2 Duo) you're not on full 64 bit yet. The move to Leopard will surely mean your machine is far more optimized. I don't know if you're a gamer, but once the drivers mature the 8600 will knock the old card out of the water.

I'm doing the same thing you are, upgrading from a CD to a SR. I'm going from a 1.83 though. I didn't recieve my new MBP yet but once I do i can let you know if it was worth the hassel. It's expected to come by next wednesday but i'll let you know asap.

Exchange a 1.5 years old super fast computer, dont think so.
The CD MBP is a very performing machine. If you dont do serious work like HD editing, Maya or play the last game, you will see none improvements.
You will just throw away 1000 usd. (upgrade price)

Tiger will scream in this machine anyway. Is 32 and 64 bits optimized, not only 64 bits.

So, I stay with my CD MBP.

Unless you absolutely NEED 4GB of RAM, the SR was a no big deal upgrade and there are better ones down the pike. The CD should perform beautifully with Leopard so just keep plugging away with that beautiful machine. When you do finally upgrade, it will be a MUCH more substantial jump than this one and you will have a great machine in the meantime that will not slow you down.
