I was thinking of upgrading my 17" 1.83GHz Core Duo iMac lcd display with one from a hi res 17" macbook pro. My iMac's lcd has a green line down the center and needs to be replaced anyway so I thought I would attempt an upgrade. my iMac runs at 1440x900 and I would like to upgrade it to 1920x1200 which is what the hi res mbp runs at.

Anyone know if that screen would work in my imac? Same connectors? Video card problems? let me know if you have an answer.

could be a nice expensive mod , but i doubt it will fit ,as apple likes to change things to make these swaps close to impossible , but ok maybe someone has modded it already somewhere out there in the world

i first did want to keep my iMac G5 display 17" with 1400x900 as a spare for the intel iMac core duo 17" , but was told the connectors and inverterboard are totally different and not exchangeable

green line

My iMac G5 now has a green line of pixels going down my screen as well. I really don't want to pay to have it fixed. I'm sure it isn't worth it.

$850 buys a refurbed 27" with one yr warranty

you could probably get a couple hundred for your current screen.

why even bother modding the old screen
