I have a 20" aluminum imac(2ghz c2d/2gb/250g) and have considered doing the 6gb ram upgrade I've seen around the internet and finding a 1tb drive that will fit into it. I am getting a little heavier into photos and plan on moving from iphoto to aperture(possibly final cut studio for slideshows)..or at least testing the waters. My current setup is a blackbook with similar specs but a 500g drive. I occasionally pull video together in imovie and run it out in idvd or similar with iphoto slideshows to idvd.

I guess I feel like there are performance issues on my blackbook that I was hoping a "desktop" type system would remedy...obviously the same specs but i'm from the PC world and laptops are always slower since they don't handle heat the same...etc. maybe mac's are different. that's why i'm asking here!

So, should I spend some money and upgrade my imac(just bought it...haha) or should I try to resell it to somebody else and move up. I really like the old school firewire ports on this imac, but I can always buy new cables for the newer firewire ports..and the new imacs have an sd slot which is kind of a trade, nice feature for my nikon!

All comments are appreciated on any of my dilemmas above. I'm somewhat of a n00b in the mac world so "you're an idiot" comments can be obvious but probably won't help anybody but feel free to vent if you need to :D

How much could you get off it? I would upgrade to newer model because they have faster CPUs, GPUs and RAM

not sure...if anybody has any input on pricing but that is more than welcome to. It's in nice shape...not sure i would truly benefit from the upgrade...crunching out data faster isn't that big of a deal but storage is huge and memory would help things run faster while in use(as would the cpu/gpu...) but I don't need a huge cruncher, maybe I do..

They seem to go for around 500-600$ in eBay, so maybe it isn't worth selling it. Upgrade RAM to 4GB and buy external HD, that will make it fine for some time
