Upgrade path CPU Single to Dual 2010

Looking for advice on the most cost-effective way to convert my 2010 2.8 Quad to a Dual Processor/8-core model to increase longevity. OWC turnkey seems outrageous at almost $3000, and all the parts don't seem to be available from eBay, etc. Is there anywhere that sells parts, or better yet a kit at a more reasonable price? Would I be better off to just stick with a single 6-core or upgrade to a nMP and enclose all my drives using TB->FW800?
Bottom Line: Really not wanting to shell out $3k if I can help it.

FWIW: My usage is primarily video editing & audio dubbing/voiceover. I produce video training courses for health care systems.

If you want to stick with cheese graters, the most cost effective method is to sell your single CPU MP and buy a similar model dual CPU MP. You will be out way less than $3000.

I can't really speak to the nMP upgrade path as there are a lot of other factors tied into that.

FWIW, going dual CPU probably doesn't increase your MP's longevity at all, unless the specific software you use happens to make good use of multiple cores. If the software you use doesn't make good use of multiple cores, then you are way better off simply upgrading your single chip to a higher clock rate, and you'll save a ton of money and effort as well.

I'm looking at the hex 3.33. Price has come down a bit; seeing it around $700-800. It should allow my 1333 RAM to run at 1333, correct? I was limited to 1066 by the quad.

^^^^Yes, The W3680 or the faster W3690 (3.47 Ghz) will allow the use of faster 1333 Mhz RAM.

Been looking around, I really don't see the value-added of spending $800 on the 3680 hex, when a 5590 quad can be had for $150 at the same 3.33 clock speed. 3690 only offers marginal clock speed (3.4) improvements at a premium. The 5590 also appears to support my 1333 RAM.
Seems like a WIN-WIN, unless I'm missing something... Thinking my money would be better spent on a new GPU. Thoughts?
