Hi to all, I have an « old » iPad Air 2, it’s getting slow… it has 2 GB RAM build in memory, officially it is sealed, can’t be opened and upgraded. I wanted to know if some of you had tried/ succeeded in upgrading RAM and or processor of this iPad? It’s performances are really slow now. Any suggestions or options. Many thanks in advance, best,

You upgrade the RAM by upgrading the device. You could probably get an iPad Air 4 for not much money.

Technically it is possible, but even if you found someone that knew how to do this and had the specialized equipment, it’s would cost you multiples of what the iPad is worth. Usually if someone does this it’s to show it can be done for a video but not to actually do it.

I don’t know about RAM but there are shops in China that upgrade storage on iPads and iPhones for a fraction of what Apple charges.

I suspect storage would be a little easier to do. Technically Apple doesn’t offer any upgrades for iPads or iPhones. I know what you mean by the price but it’s only you can order that configuration. You can’t just go back to the Apple Store and ask for more storage. It would be nice, but not practical.

China is where they make things so they have people that are technically knowledgeable and the equipment available. You can get anything repaired or upgraded in China for a reasonable price. In most western countries electronics and many other items are disposable. When they break you throw them in the trash. The cost of paying someone to fix it would be significantly higher than the total price of the item new

RAM is located directly on the chipset, so there is no way to upgrade it.

I know. I only learned about the iPad upgrades when I visited the Philippines and one of my friends who visited China (Shenzhen, I think?) mentioned it.

The Air 2 has A8X though. Looks like it's external, too.

You’re correct. I was mistaken about the chipset used and the location of the memory! That being said, I’m very skeptical that even the most skilled repairman would have much success upgrading the memory (if compatible, larger chips are even available).

Yeah. Honestly, I don’t think iOS would support more RAM on these models.

That’s a fair point. There’s a good chance OS is coded to only address the default 2GB of the Air 2. A successful upgrade to a 4GB module may result in only 2GB usable anyway.

iPads cannot upgradable. Similar to iPhone and Macs. The best recommendation is sell and replace with a current generation iPad.
