I purchased an SSD and the owc data doubler kit. Anyone know if I can install a larger than 1 TB HDD? I saw this portable or $129, I was thinking of trying to buy it and use the drive in my Mac Mini.

The 2TB 2.5" form factor HDD's are thicker than normal - I believe 15MM instead of the normal 9.5MM because they have an extra platter. You may not have enough room with a second drive in there, it might work with a slim SSD. I recall someone in a previous thread did a measurement of the total space available but I couldn't find it so I can't answer your question for sure. The easier solution would be to keep it external. If you have a new mini with USB 3.0 then the disk will read/write at full speed anyways.

i believe they just removed the casing of the SSD and set it below the 2TB HDD.
the 2TB "2.5" drives are definitely thicker and larger so one will definitely work in the mini

That's what I was afraid of, I might just stick with external.

I don't see that other thread, did they try the same external? And I think if it doesn't fit in the owc kit, that I can't screw it in properly, I'd rather stick with a 1TB.

Thanks for the replies.
