ok so my contracts soon running out and i can upgrade. had the 3g for about half a year then i got nicked, so been iphone-less for about a year. luckily i'm not paying over the odds for the privilege as i have a friend who works for o2.

anyway, what's everyone's thoughts on gettin an iphone now? i'm the type of person that when someone asks if they should wait for a revision i say 'just get it now and be happy', and to be honest i am probably gonna just get it now. if a new iphone os comes out it'll prolly run on the iphone 3gs anyway, and it'll also mean if i upgrade now in another 18 months when i'll be due my next upgrade it'll land happily in july, which seems to be when iphones get revisions.

but the iphone has had pretty much the same design since it came out a few years ago, will the next one be completely different? i've even heard a rumour that a new iphone could come out at the media event at the end of january. any thoughts?

I would just wait until June/July.
And no, there will not be a new iPhone later this month. It's just wishful thinking.

I'd wait.

I am on a 3G right now, so I didn't upgrade to the 3GS. Heck, if the features aren't compelling enough of the new phone I may not even upgrade then......but the speed bump would be nice..... As of now it only looks like a better camera + flash......yay, I have a digital camera for that. However if the front face gets changed I'll def upgrade....the front is starting to look real dated IMHO.....

As a side note, I doubt that it will be called the 4G because hasn't the name of the iPhone been based on the data network that it's on? 2G, 3G? Crappy AT&T isn't rolling out 4G until 2011.....unless apple puts in a 4G radio before AT&T even releases the 4G network.....who knows. They may end up calling it the 3GWEMSAAFHTT3GS (3G with even more speed and awesome faster hardware than the 3G speed) or more simply the 3GS+S (3G speed + speed)

wait. it's only a few months away and it'll roll round sooner than later. plus, you'll be so pissed when it comes out if you're stuck with a 3GS which isn't even that great compared to the newer phones out there now. At the very least wait and seee what the tablet brings in terms of OS and whether it offers an inkling as to what to expect for iphone 4

if u have a 3g i would wait. If you have no iphone at all, then it maybe harder to wait, for me i couldnt wait, i hated my lg vu, just got my 3gs today, couldnt be happier

uh dude...this is the hottest phone on the market okay. look at the iphone, its been out 3 years, and still really popular. look at the droid, it was supposed to be better than the iphone, it was out for a week and nobody cared any more. the iphone is the king of phones. you can freaking hack on this thing. i mean really u can cause a denial of service on at&t's towers which means that nobody will have phone service. thats why apple doesnt want people jailbreaking them.

We need a definite answer to this so people will really stop repeating these questions.

If it's not coming till summer how come the buyers guide says a firm "don't buy"? In my experience it's usually right? Im about to pay $135 early term fee + $36 for activation + $99 and tax for the iphone 3G. Right now Im using a motorola slvr, and It's really horrible. I can either do the above now, wait till the 26th press confrence or wait till my contract ends in december 2010 :(

I'll give it. Wait. I believe this is the most significant upgrade that you have seen of the iPhone since its introduction. The 3GS is a very nice upgrade but I think that it is the last generation of a great product line. The newest iPhone will be the second generation with hardware and software redesigned from the ground up. What you will probably see:

-higher resolution screen
-64GB hard drive
-dual core ARM A9 processor with PA Semi influence for significantly better battery
-5MP camera with LED light
-RFID chip
-higher resolution recording in widescreen format
-new rear casing
-multitasking that was made for specifically this phone in mind
-possibly a stronger glass screen that will be the same as in the tablet
-redesigned OS that will take some cues from the tablet
-Verizon for the US customer

Now it's been answered. Stop posting these threads. :D

i always like getting the last gen of the product designs, usually the best one, i dont like getting the first gen of a new design because then i need to deal with the bugs. First gen iphone was great but had its share of problems, 3g got better, 3gs even better.

Kinda like cpus. First gen dual core from intel sucked. Last gen dual cores, the wolfdale, was lightyears ahead
