Upgrade to iOS5, now iPhone won't sync?

iPhone won't sync via dock cable. Click "sync" button from the summary screen in iTunes and I get a message in the upper bar "sync cancelled". No iTunes library updating.

Any ideas? Anyone else having this problem? I see a few such posts on Apple's support forums but no answers.
