I have a second generation Air , and thinking about making all my tech usb-c. I basically use the iPad for media consumption, social media , you tube etc, so I won’t really use all of the Pro features. I travel quite frequently. I am also waiting for the iPhone to goto usb-c, so hopefully one day just have to rely on one cable. Would like everyone’s opinion get the pro or wait for air to go usb-c.

I'd go for a refurb 2018 Pro if you really want to go all-in on USB-C considering it's only a little bit more than a new Air but you get not just the benefit of USB-C but ProMotion, quad speakers, A12X, FaceID etc.

There's no guarantee that the Air will ever go USB-C so I don't think you should wait for that.

There certainly is no need from a use case perspective, upgrading now would simply give you a really really nice tablet.

There is no wrong or right in this - do as you please and life is sometimes short so don’t stress over the decision.

Another approach would be to wait until iPhone gets that port and by then upgrade both. Use the iPad you already have until it falls apart.

It'll definitely go USB-C in a few years. Everything is beginning to go USB-C.

I could just as easily see it going portless - although I agree eveything should go USB, Apple still seem pretty committed to Lightning. E.g. I was a bit disappointed that the new AirPods were all still Lightning last year.

Refurb 2018 11” 64GB WiFi is currently $549 vs a base $799 for the new 2020 model. $250 saving.

Honestly in my opinion the iPad Pro is worth it. The speakers and promotion are what make it worth it to me. USB-C support is the icing on the cake. Plus if you ever wanted a keyboard case with trackpad the pro is the only iPad with support for the magic Keyboard folio.

Although Logitech has announced — and Apple will be selling — a Smart Connector trackpad keyboard for non-Pro models. That said, I am an IPP user.
