Try this... copy the install image file to the computer, then use this free app to make a true Mountain Lion installer from the image you copied.

right, will do if i can't get it done otherwise
(apple's really dropping the ball with lion/mlion setup :mad:)

If you are not wanting to format the computer and just want to update, you should also be able to just copy the install DMG to the computer and run it straight from there. Just be aware that this will delete the install DMG when the install is done.

thanks for the tip

but, oh crapple, got a fresh ml image and this is happening now:

after 2-3min prep, notebook restarts and comes back to normal login...nothing's done, 10.7.5...:confused:
:confused::confused::confused:
may this have to do with the fact that my recovery partition is no more?
and if so, how do i get it back?

That should not matter. The Mountain Lion install would make a new Recovery HD. So you have Lion running fine and you copied the Install Mountain Lion file to the HDD and ran it?

that's correct

it sure looks like a clean install seems to be the only way :(
when's 10.9 coming?
no, actually, i'm wondering if i should just go back to snow leopard...could never really see much profit in lion...and i got a feeling that machine would perform better with it...
