Upgrade to Sierra from El Capitan on older Mac

I updated a while back from Snow Leopard to OS X EI Capitan, all went well only issue is opening mail and browswer can sometimes take a bit longer then prior with Snow Leopard. Is updating to the current OS possible with my older system. See specs below. Thanks for any info.

MacBook Pro (13-inch, Early 2011)
Processor 2.3 GHz Intel Core i5
Memory 4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
223 GB Space available

Even coastal link shows macbook pro 2010 onward and OP has 2011.

Just some features will not work

My two cents. I ran Sierra on the same model Macbook Pro, with 8GB RAM and an SSD, coming from Yosemite. Didn’t feel quite as fast, though acceptable. I did downgrade back to Yosemite.
