Hi all,

I've just installed Windows XP Home on my new MacBook Pro. I'm running in it in a virtual machine (VMWare Fusion) and have NOT installed it via BootCamp. My question is: now that I've installed it, should I allow Windows Update to update me to Windows SP3? I read some threads here advising to install SP2 rather than SP3 but I don't know if that still holds now that Windows has been successfully installed via Fusion? To clarify, I don't have any obvious need for SP3 that I know of, but that is the only Update that Windows Update is pushing on me, which makes me think that unless I download it I will not be getting the various patches and security fixes that MS is constantly releasing.

Many thanks in advance for any guidance that any of you can shed! And my apologies if this is a dumb question somehow - I'm pretty new to all of this.

regards,
Abe Z.

The requirement is SP2 in order to install by Boot Camp
There was no real advice against upgrading to SP3 at all

You just could not install anything less than SP2

Yes, you should allow the update
