Hello, guys. Should I just upgrade from the latest version of Mavericks via the App Store, or should I do a clean install and recover everything from my TM backup when it asks me to do it?

Are there actually improvements with the clean install + backup or it's the same since the backup brings back everything as it was?

Thanks a lot.

Personal recommendation only - do a clean install. Yeah...it takes longer, but there are a few people that have run into issues doing an update (usually related to a third party app that loads on star-tup screwing things up).

I basically downloaded Yosemite from the App Store, installed it. Then rebooted into disk utility, deleted the drive, and reinstalled Yosemite. Not sure if that counts as a clean install.

Upgrade vs. Clean Install + backup from TM

I would just upgrade. With these annual updates, a clean install is such a pain every year. If you have problems, you can always clean install later.

Thanks! What kind of problems may I face? And how do I recognize slow performance related to the OS itself rather than an upgrade malfunction?

It's hard to compare, the only real answer is if the lag is annoying for you, attempt a clean install and see if it helps.

Installed. Seems good. It lags on the Retina display but that's normal, since the HD 4000 can't push all those pixels. On an external 1080p Dell monitor it's ok.

Hi all,

I´m not really into installing an operating system as I´ve upgraded a few times the last couple of years.
But do I get a possibility to do a clean instal when I choose Yosemite in App store or can I only do it if I transfer it to a memory stick of some kind?
´Cause I think I need cleaning up the computer a bit ;)
TIA
