OK, I scored on a Refurb and it's a 27" iMac...

RFB IMAC 27"/2.8QC/2X2GB/1TB/5750/SD-USA :D :D :D
Refurbished iMac 27-inch 2.8GHz Intel Quad-Core i5 processor

The file transfer could not have been easier. I restored from a Time Machine external drive back-up. SO EASY!!! :apple:

Anyway, here's where I need help. The 21.5" I am keeping for my spouse. I've decided to not wipe out the hard-drive and to just change the name. I've figured out how to change account name, the mouse name, the keyboard name, etc.

But what I am having trouble with is the home directory.

I found this: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1428

But when I got to step 4 it wouldn't let me change the name "just like you would rename any folder".

I select the home directory and hit Return but it just beeps and doesn't open the name for editing.

ANY IDEAS???

It is soooooo easy to just format the drive and start fresh. It's not like windows where you have to hunt down drivers and sacrifice a small pet to Bill Gates. It will take you about an hour and your actual input is about 3 minutes of that.
Edit:
Also, if I recall I think you cannot change the name once you make it. It warns you of that when you set it up

Anyone else?

I'm trying to avoid having to re-transfer pics and music and crap. I guess it would be easy, but if I can change the name of the home directory that would be swell.

It wasn't that it didn't like the name I was trying, it was that it wouldn't even allow me to try a name. But I'll click that link, THANKS!!! :)

Thanks!

I chickened out. I read the article and it suggested 3 methods, but there were "risks" involved and I'm not a risky kinda guy. Plus my spouse came home and said "I don't care what the home directory is called."

So I'm leaving it.

WOOHOO!!! Now I can start enjoying this badass 27-incher!!!

SO MUCH JOY! :):):):):):):)

HAHA, it's funny to see what they could care less about but we would go hours trying to fix.
