Hi, just upgraded my late 2013 imac with an OWC 1TB SSD (The 500GB SSD had SMART errors so had to..), and everything went smooth - or so i thought. I bought a new original fan on ebay and installed it, as i thought that since this had been running for 5 years this would probably be a good thing to replace, whilst i had it taken apart anyway.

System boots up fine, finds the harddrive, and i installed Catalina with no problems. Wanted to check everything before finally taping the chassis back together (holding the screen in place with some regular tape on the outside), and discovered the fan is at 0rpm!

Did a system diagnostic, and it says there might be a problem with the fan.. Took the iMac apart twice to ensure that the cable is correctly in place, and even tried to mount the old fan back - but same result.

Tried resetting parameter ram too.

Is my iMac toast, or is there anyone who has some advice for me?

Yes, that should fix the issue - the OWC salesperson should've guided you there 😓 ...

D

Yes, it is a 27" late 2013

I thought there would be no issues with the OWC SSD and heat sensors - it's not a 2.5" but a PCIe 1TB drive

And, is the problem with missing heat sensor not that the fans spins to max, rather than not spinning at all?

You should try putting back in the original ssd/Drive, to see if everything works OK with that, and if it does then Good(?). If it doesn’t work, then maybe there something else that you may have missed, quadruple check all your wiring though ...
