Upgraded iMac from a retailer?

I am planning on buying an iMac towards the end of the summer before the new school year.

I want a 24" iMac but I want:
Upgraded Processor (2.33)
Upgraded Memory (2g)
Upgraded Vid Card (256mb 7600GT)
Wireless Keyboard & Mouse

I want to buy it off of apple.ca so that I can upgrade it and so that I can get the educational discount, but I am worried about returning it. Thats where it's better if I buy from Futureshop or a store where I can return it (but then I don't get an educational discount or the option to upgrade from a retailer)

If I have a problem do I have to ship it back to where I got it from? Can I take it to an Apple Store? How well is the return time for a problem?

Why do you want to return it?

Nothing purchased custom configured from Apple can be returned. Regular configuration can be returned to the Apple Store, but there's usually a 10% restock fee. (most electronics stores probably have restock fees... not sure about canada though, eh?)

Are you just afraid you won't like it?

If you have a problem with any Apple computer, you can take it to an Apple store or call AppleCare if it's less than 90 days old or you bought AppleCare for it. They'll take care of any hardware problems.

I didn't mean returning it for good, I meant if I had a problem to get it fixed. I thought it comes with free support for 90 days and a warranty for a year (apple protection plan makes the warranty go for three years)

As far as I know your machine will be under the traditional apple warranty/support guarantee regardless of where you buy it. You still have the option to purchase the extended warranty (AppleCare) if you wish.
