I swapped out an original Apple configured 2x2.26 GHz Quad Core (8-Cores) CPU tray with 12GB 1066 MHz DDR3 RAM for a 2x3.33GHz Six Core (12-Cores) Xeon X5680 Westmere CPU Tray with OWC 96GB 1333MHz DDR3 RAM around April/May 2013. Purchased the CPU Tray Upgrade on eBay and the RAM from OWC. Up until recently it has performed flawlessly. However, last week, the Mac Pro began experiencing random shut downs followed by the final fatal blow of failure to boot. Attempts to boot result in a short attempt to start up followed by a restart, followed by another failed attempt to boot, another restart, etc. This cycle loops indefinitely never loading into the OS.

I removed the “upgraded” CPU Tray and installed my “original” Apple CPU Tray with the OWC 96GB RAM and the system now successfully boots into High Sierra 10.13.6) and so far appears stable. I must assume the issue is with the upgraded CPU Tray as the OWC 96GB RAM is functioning fine in the original Apple CPU Tray. Any thoughts on the source of the system shut downs and failure to boot would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance!
