Hi, I upgraded my unlocked 2G iPhone with T-Mobile from 2.1 to 2.2

After the update was complete, my iPhone turns on to show me a message to connect to iTunes.

I connect to iTunes, iTunes says the T-Mobile sim card is not supported although I look at the top of my iPhone and I am getting full service from T-Mobile, so my iPhone is in fact still unlocked.

I insert a blank AT&T sim card, iPhone says "Waiting for Activation This May Take Some Time."

Sync it to iTunes, iTunes doesn't do anything; just acts like everything is normal.

Now, I can use all the features of the iPhone except the phone because I have "No Service" with a blank AT&T sim card.

I decided to insert my T-Mobile sim card and my iPhone tells me again to sync to iTunes.

So how do I bypass this activation problem? I can still use my iPhone as an iPod, I guess, but it won't do anything with my T-Mobile sim card, except show me I have full service but need to sync to iTunes, and when I do, iTunes won't recognize the sim card.

Yeah the same thing happened to me, for no apparent reason. I had to use Quickpwn just now to get it to work. Not sure if this is just a fluke or something but it's pissing me off greatly. Hope this trend doesn't continue...

i am havng the same problems. I got my iphone replaced today after i bricked it. It came with 2.2 and asked to "activate on itunes"

I used quickpwn2.2 to jailbreak it. The phone is unlocked and i can sync it. but it shows NO BARS and does NOT list any service. I have tried swapping sim cards and same issues.

I figured out my problem. Im an idiot. Did you guys "unlock" your phones when you uses quickpwn 2.2?

You have to manually check the box for "Unlock" when you select things like cydia and installer. if you DONT select it, the phone is only jailbroken. not unlocked. unlocking the phone gets it off AT&T.

really silly and dumb yes.

Ok, now I am the dumb one. Where do you choose unlock in quickpwn2.2? I also just got a new iPhone (2G) b/c I bricked my old one. Used quickpwn 2.2 to get phone past that initial "emergency call only, no sim card" mode but when I put in my Tmobile sim card (that worked on my old iPhone) I get no service.

My phone is unlocked though, it just won't allow me to use the T-Mobile sim card even though I am getting service with it.

The connect to iTunes picture instantly appears every time I try to use it.
