Hi everyone! Long time reader, finally registered.

So, I bought my iMac in 08. It had 2 gigs of ram. With OS Lion coming out soon, i wanted to upgrade the ram. I followed the requirements as per in the book that came with it.

I bought ram that matched, popped it in, it started fine, everything worked very fast! After 30 minutes the " Mac screen of death " popped up and I had ti restart. Then I got the 3 beeps on start up.

So, if I got the wrong ram, why would it start up in the first place and work awesome?!

I must head to work now, but will reply with the ram I punched soon.

Thanks

very likely faulty ram modules. The modules may have gotten fried during the first 30 min usage which surely isn't normal. I'd take the Ram back and get some replacement modules. If the new ones don't work either, it's likely there's a problem with your iMac.
