I upgraded to MacOs 10.15.4. Went without a hitch. However at the conclusion I was told that two apps (Cisco AnyConnect and Intego Virus protection) will not run in future versions of MacOs. What this mean and how can I get around this?

Do I need to create another volume for an older OS, and if so where (McIntosh HD or McIntosh Data)?

Thanks

Those are probably 32-bit apps and as of MacOS 10.15 they will not run - only 64-bit apps. You should contact those app providers to obtain 64-bit versions.

NO. these are 64 bit apps but with legacy system extensions. They currently run fine and have run fine in all versions of Catalina. Apple says they will not run beyond Catalina. What are my options?

Catalina discontinued the ability to run 32bit apps, so those messages have to be referring to something different.

Are there newer versions of those apps?

EDIT: You might have to give those companies a chance to catch up and release versions that don't utilize legacy system extensions/kernel extensions. Also, you might contact support for those apps and ask if they plan on updating their software.

Had the same message for my Drobo dashboard app after installing 10.15.4.

The Drobo app will no longer open as it asks for permissions 10.15.4 won't give although this worked perfectly on 10.15.3.

They are not 32 bit. The issue is related to Legacy System Extensions. Apple says these apps will not run beyond Catalina.

I work for a government agency and they control when a version of Cisco AnyConnect that is future compatible will be released. They are NOT very Mac friendly. They are a Windows shop. I have no control when a new version will be released.

the Intego virus software cud no longer an issue. Only the Cisco.

How do I create another volume or partition in an APFS formatted drive? Do I do this in the McIntosh HD volume of the McIntosh HD Data volume ?

thanks

You don't need to do anything. They will probably stop working in 10.16. So avoid updating to 10.16 until those two apps are updated.

Newer version of Cisco AnyConnect supports Catalina (I think 4.7 and later). Contact your IT as Cisco does not offer download.

It is not an issue with Catalina. It will be an issue with 10.16. So far, the latest version of the app, which I have from work will not run in 10.16 because of legacy extensions. What are my options?

I thought of creating a new volume with a second copy of 10.15, but I don’t know how or where to create the volume.

Who told you that AnyConnect won't work with 10.16 that is likely due this fall?

There hasn't been any indication that 10.16 won't work with apps that runs fine on 10.15. And Cisco has always updated AnyConnect ahead of major OS launch.

At the conclusion of installing 10.15.4,Apple noted the software will not run in future versions of the OS.

Even if Cisco releases a compatible version, there can be a long delay until my job releases it for us to use. Can be more than 6 months.

I will probably need an interim solution.

Apple did. See the link below about KEXT files. Mouse and keyboard drivers, network device drivers, and a host of other apps will need to be updated to work with the OS... as I'm sure they will be.

Apple announced this last year at WWDC.
According to Apple, starting with macOS 10.15.4, use of kernel extensions will trigger a notification to the user that the software includes a deprecated API and will ask the user to contact the developer for alternatives. Developers will need to update to the new "System Extensions" format for their wares.

I also received the message for my Drobo, but Drobo Dashboard opens fine and there are no updates (as of yet). I am at Version 3.5.0 (113780).

You have several months at a minimum, and developers have been advised of this since 10.15 went into beta last summer– there's no need to set up a second volume at this point. We don't even know if this change will happen with 10.16. Apple deprecated 32-bit support beginning in 10.13, but kept the support in place until 10.15 was released. Apple may do the same with kernel extensions and not get rid of it entirely until 10.17 in 2021.

Yes, several months. And for myself, because I insist on having all my third party applications be compatible with the new Mac OS, Micromat has typically not released a compatible version of Tech Tool Pro until at least V10.x.2 of the new OS has been released. For both Mojave and Catalina, it was the .3 versions of each one before I "moved" from the prior OS I was running.

As usual Apple have not warned us about this. But what is happening is this:

The apps in question are all ones which use Kernel extensions (kext). These are deprecated and will be blocked in a future version (presumably 10.16). The developers have been warned of this and that they need to replace any kext with a system extension (sext).

The warning only appears the first time you use the app or kext.

So don't worry about it for now. If you want to do something write to the developers of your apps and remind them that they need to make changes soon.

Same thing with current shipping versions of LittleSnitch (4.4.3) and AdGuard (2.3.2.710). My other computer also complained about the .kext for an USB3 → Ethernet adapter with ASIX AX88179 chipset.
