so im pretty much retarded when it comes to iphones so i need all
the detailed help you can give lol
i have an iphone 2g updated to 3.1.2.
not only do i not know what that means i dont have any idea
howto unlock it so i can use it on my iphone
thanks for your help

You'll have to go back to 3.1 to get the unlock. Use pwnage tool to create a custom 3.1 ipsw, stick your iphone into DFU and restore.

Personally i had to return to a vanilla 3.0, use redsn0w to unlock that and then upgrade to a custom 3.1 to make it work. Hopefully you can take the easier direct route.

blackrain will jailbreak but not hactivate or unlock 3.1.2.

Be thankful you have a 2G and can reverse the process :)

BTW: There are detailed guides all over the net on how to do the above so hopefully you can find the answers yourself on google. At least now you have a starting point!

haha thanks for the advise some details
would help but ill do my best to search the net
thanks alot =)

i dont have an at&t card to activate so will i still be able to do this?

Read the guides. The programs will activate and unlock your phone for you. You'll need the bootloaders if you've never done this before. And boot neuter.

Google is your friend. It's all been done before and there are loads of guides.

ok i figured it out but when
i tried to restore it to the 3.0
firmware i cant find the 3.0 firmware
i think i might be because its in a winzip folder?

You are a perfect candidate for staying away from jailbreaking and unlocking and simply use ATT on a stock iPhone.
