After upgrading from Mojav to Catalina on MBA 2018 1.5TB I see Mac-HD 10.69 GB and Mac-HD-DATA 293.74 GB. anyone know what this means - shouldn't I just see one HD - I only saw this when I did a Disk utility to, run First aid.

Catalina creates two partitions, one with the "name" that you know, and the other with "name - data"
It's still one drive, but two partitions. One (name) is read-only. The other (name - data) is read/write, and is the partition where all your files are kept. It might be confusing when you first see it, but you don't need to change anything about how you work with your files, etc. The system knows what to do with the two volumes, and the Finder will know where everything is.

Strictly speaking, Catalina creates two APFS volumes inside one container inside one partition. That is what you see in Disk Utility so long as have View - > Show All Devices. Otherwise just as DeltaMac has said.

It is explained by Bombich.com and simple search here or Google. There are other identical threads with Q&A
