Has anyone had any problems upgrading to iTunes 10.5 only to lose all the music they had? I had not done a recent backup, my fault, but it is all gone. Is there anything I can do to get it back? This happened on my Windows machine; my mac prompted me to upgrade to iTunes 10.5, to which I declined.

If you search your computer, you'll find your music. Upgrading iTunes does not affect any music files; only the app.

I will second that, iTunes won't delete the music, their may be a slight chance your library file was corrupted so it made a new one that thinks you have no music but the files will still be there.

Yeah I'm not seeing it anywhere. My own files or the songs I purchased on iTunes.

Did you search in Finder like this?

I found it hard to believe iTunes could delete all you music without your permission, even when you manually delete music from iTunes, it only moves the files to trash bin.

Your music files are stored by default in this location in Finder:

Your home folder (your name) -->Music -->iTunes --> iTunes Media --> Music.

Its the same path for Windows under "My Music".

Have a look in the last folder, all your music should be there grouped by artist.

Hopefully iTunes only lost the link to your music folder during update.
