Upgraded your hard drive? Noise / speed / battery feedback please

I plan to upgrade my Macbook's hard drive - preferably to 320Gb as these seem to be available now or perhaps to 250Gb.

My main priorities are noise, speed and effect on battery life.

I would really appreciate any feedback people could give me based on real experience, compared to the standard drive.

I currently have a standard 160Gb hard drive.

Don't believe you'll find a HDD replacement for a MB that's larger than 250GB.

What I would do is go with the 200GB Hitachi, speed 7K. I've not have an Hitachi drive ever go bad, that's why I use them.

The 7K will be much faster than your current HDD, the speed increase will be noticeable.

Hitachi drives aka as TravelStar, are in my opinion, and experience are not noisy.

Battery life? I haven't noticed a change either more or less. But I don't have a method to test the effect on battery life.

Get an external enclosure for your current HDD.

i have a hitachi 7200rpm drive. only thing i hear is the cooling fan in the macbook. It helps move 100+ meg photoshop files around quicker than my macbook pro (which has a 5200rpm drive). Speed is very key for those who deal with large graphics/video files.

The largest drive is now a 320 from Western Digital. It's only 5400rpm though.
