Hi, I bought a new Intel dual core 2.4 ghz 17" MacBook Pro in mid 2007 and I was wondering how much I can upgrade it. I mainly use After Effects and use a lot of 3d space and Trapcode plugins (Particular especially).

Anyway it came with 2 gb RAM and I think I can upgrade that to 4.

But does anyone know if there is a better video card I can add? I looked on macsales.com but they don't have anything for my MBP.

Thanks for the help in advance.

Edited to add: My MBP came with the GeForce 8600M GT 256mb RAM

Thanks!

Thanks for the responses then, I appreciate it.

The HD I have is 7200 RPM... this is the first notebook I've owned with a 7200 RPM HD in it (always 5400 in the past) and there's a big difference, that's for sure.

I'll put 4 gb RAM in it then and I guess at that point it's as loaded as it can get. I'm not unhappy with my MBP, I love it. Just wanted to upgrade as much as I can.

You will be happy with the 4gb upgrade. It will not be faster on day to day tasks (email, etc) but will be able to run many more progs simultaneously and will handle after effects much better.
