Hi guys,

The hard drive on my MBA just crashed... What kind of options do I have? Can I only have the same 80GB HDD PATA drive? Or can I go larger than 80GB? Or can I even go for a SSD drive? In such case which SSD drives would you recomend?
Thanx

mba rev A was a nightmare to me with the cpu throttling down because the temperature was so hot and it got unusable because the mouse jittering.

if i were u, i would sell the rev A mba and get a 13" base air.

There are a few (very few) SSDs out there for the Revision A Air. Runcore still sells theirs, but they're awfully pricey. A little googling reveals a few other manufacturers claiming to have some. If they seem too shady/expensive for you, there's always eBay. New drives for the Revision A are rather rare because it's the only Air that used PATA drives, and the later revisions had the benefits of lower pricing and better performance, so they sold much better. Best of luck though!

I upgraded my Rev A with a 256Gb Photofast GMonster SSD about 10 months ago. Along with a new battery, it's still going strong. I don't do any demanding work so it is likely to see use for another couple of years.

This SSD is expensive but I have not had any of the problems reported with the Runcore SSD's.

If I were to spend that money again, I would go for a new MBA (an option not available when I needed the drive).

retrieve your data by finding a PC repair guy who's familiar with Linux. (my local guy can pull data of a Mac OSX Extended Journaled formatted HDD easily enough)

replace with another 80gb PATA as cheaply as possible, flog it off on eBay, buy yourself a refurb MBAir current Rev - and boy will you notice a difference :D
