Upgrading 2G iPhone to 3.0?

Hi there,

I have a 2G iPhone running on T-mobileUK (Unlocked), I am currently still running software version 2.2 and was wondering if I can safely upgrade to 3.0+ without too much hassle?

Any help much appreciated..
