upgrading a mac mini ( late 2012) with yosemite 10.10.5 and server 3.2.2

I have a mac mini ( late 2012) with yosemite 10.10.5 and server 3.2.2

I want to upgrade to logic 10.3 but app store wants el capitan or sierra.

when I tried to install sierra the installer says

"Mac OS server supports Mac OS version 5.2. To upgrade your server data you will first need to install OSX 10.10 or 10.11 and your OSX server to version 4 or 5"

I have Yosemite 10.10.5 and server 3.2.2 and cannot go any higher, and the app store says El Capitan cannot be installed on this computer?

Question is how can I upgrade to something higher than yosemite 10.10.5 and server 3.2.2?

I have the 4 core mac-mini 2012 and it run El capitan and Sierra ? and did play with a beta server

if you never had El Capitan before they may have turned off new downloads and you may need a flash drive with a older OS to install.

It is A really good idea to at least download but don't install all newer apple OS for later use.


And you are correct logic 10.3 sound program needs

• OS X v10.11 or later

You can try Sierra on an external USB3 hard disk ( systems still boot and run well that way)

I have 4 different OS's in my 4 USB ports and one in the thunderbolt port going to a SSD disk.

The 2012 Mac minis run Sierra without a hitch. Here are a few points to consider:

• make sure you have a backup of your current machine. If anything goes wrong, you can always roll back
• The upgrade path usually works maybe with minor glitches along the way
• from what you are saying, it almost sounds like a corrupt installation of Server on your machine.
• run first aid and perform the Hardware Test to make sure everything is in order
• consider a clean install. There are plenty of instructions on how to make a bootable USB stick from the downloaded Sierra Installer. You might have to reconfigure your server manually, which sometimes is not a bad thing when you have to rethink what you want to do

If you're not using any of the services that Server.app offers, you can just delete it from the Applications folder. When you move Server.app to the trash, you may receive a notice that services are being stopped.
You won't be able to use the version of El Capitan that's still linked from Apple.com, unless you have it in your "Purchases" history of the app store, so it may be easiest for you to just upgrade to Sierra, which has been working fine for me on my 2012 Mac Minis.

Install sierra first, then upgrade the server. Do not upgrade everything at the same time.

You may need server 4.
I don't remember how old of a version it is but there is server that won't update to 5, needs a v4 first
