I just got my first Mac off ebay, a used intel core solo Mini, for a steal of a deal (<$500 shipped with everything that came in the box and warranty). My intentions for buying it were that I wanted a MBP for college but I don't go to college for another year. I wanted a Mac really really bad, though, so I bought this one to hold me off. Well I realized that I will probably be able to use this Mac just as much as I will use my MBP when I get to college. So how well will I be able to upgrade it? Will I be able to transfer a Merom chip to it when they come out? (or have someone do it for me)? I figure with one of thise and 2GB of ram it will haul ass.

Yeah you can pop a Merom in. I just picked up a Mini Solo for the same price as you. I found a 1.83ghz Core Duo for $140. I am popping that in this week. Then comes 2GB of Ram.

So yeah the upgrade options are there. You can even do the HD and dvd drive down the road, which chances are I will do both since i'd like DVD burning capability.

Problems reassembling

I'm having the weirdest problem after upgrading the ram in the mini. The computer boots up fine when the cover is off. but when I put the cover on it won't boot, it just blinks its light real fast and does nothing, anyone have an idea as to what could be wrong? I've reassembled it 4 time now and the same thing every time....

it seams that the oproblem was bad memory, when I took the new g.skill chip out and put the factory memory back in it worked fine again....

From what i've heard they are very upgradable, the only hard part is getting it open, no screws, it just snaps together, like the iPods, but very do-able.

By the end of the school year (May/June) there should be a few 200 GB 2.5" drives out that will fit in the Mini.
The price might be a bit out there, but it will drive the cost of the 160GB notebook drives down out of the stratosphere.
