I've read a couple articles about people upgrading minis with prerelease Meroms when the minis first came out, but most of those are short on details. Has any one heard of upgrading iMacs or Mac minis with production Core 2 Duos(Merom)? If so, does anyone know if the firmware in those machines work with all the 64-bitness and stuff, thus making it about the same as the expected Merom iMac updates?

I've seen those, it should work. Those were near final chips, so there shouldn't be any differences between those and the final ones for sale now. System Profiler may just mis-identify it but that should be about the only issue. I'm sure someone will stick a final Merom into a Mini or iMac soon. :)

I hope so. Appareny the Core 2 Duo performs even better than the Core Duo(and they are basically at the same clock speed), not to mention, a 64-bit CPU could give the machine a big longer life span. Too bad my MacBook is stuck where it's at.
