I'm a freelance motiondesigner and have to do some heavy lifting on my maxed out late 2012 27" iMac, which is serving me well in general, but could of course be faster when it comes to rendering from after effects or premiere.
I already own a 12 TB Promose Pegasus tb raid and a drobo 5D, so I'm well prepared for the mac pro thunderbolt setup idea.
One big drawback would be that I'd loose my main 27" display (i have a 2nd 24" cinema display), and don't wanna buy a new cinema display until they finally upgrade it to the thin design and usb 3!!.
But besides that, do you think the new mac pro would make a big impact performance-wise for me, and if so, in what configuration would I have to start with, to really feel a difference? I doubt the entry level machine would be THAT much faster... I don't really see the point of the dual GPUs so far, since I don't think that any editing suite nor after effects are optimized for dual AMD graphics cards? I'm not doing 3d, but even If I would, my flatmate already complained because 3dsmax is only optimized for nvidia cards (same as afx and premiere).
