iPhone upgrading from 5.0.1 to 5.1.1 by way of 6.0

Hello all. I hope my question isn't too redundant.

I currently have a 4 with 5.0.1 that has been jailbroken. I'm hoping to upgrade to 5.1.1 but as most of you certainly know apple has stopped signing that firmware. According to cydia I have blobs for 5.1.1 (and 5.1.1r1, 6.0.1, etc) so should I just upgrade to 6.0 then downgrade to 5.1.1 using RedSn0w?

Can I be any more certain that I have 5.1.1 blobs? I only ask because i've never had that firmware installed on this phone and I desperately don't want to be stuck with 6.0. I suppose the purpose of this thread is to ask that question.

Why would you want to update to 6.0? And then go back to 5.1.1?
All you have to do is create a custom 5.1.1 ipsw using redsnow. Stitch your shsh blobs to it and then put the iphone in pwned dfu and restore with itunes by selecting that custom 5.1.1 firmware file.

Yes, you can upgrade straight to 5.1.1 since you have blobs.
No need to go to 6.0 or 6.0.1 at all.

Didn't know that was a possibility as I have never needed to use redsnow to upgrade. I wasn't sure if I really had the blobs since I never used that firmware but now I know that's not how it works.

Well, only one way to find out. If you truely have the blobs, then you can upgrade to 5.1.1 no problem, if you cant, then someone somewhere is lying to you. They method you said is doable, but its the long way around. You can go straight to 5.1.1.

Download redsn0w and use it to restore with a custom stitched IPSW.

with my iphone connected when I query the cydia server in redsnow it confirms that I have all the blobs that I thought.

However, and this is where things may get weird, when I manually looked for my ECID with usbview it isn't the same ECID that redsnow auto fills in. When I query with the ECID I pulled off of usbview nothing is known about the device.

The ECID I pulled off of usbview is 16 digits long while the one that redsnow auto filled is only 13. ECID are supposed to be 16 digits long correct?

Another thing too is on redsnow in the window where one would enter the ECID and where mine was filled out automatically it says "The ECID for the iPhone3,1 currently connected is shown below"

"iPhone3,1"

OK so I've learned that iPhone3,1 is the internal name for this model. Still which one of the ECIDs is the legit one?

I have no clue about the ECID, but the iphone 4 is known in firmwares as the iPhone3,1 so that is correct.

No I was just a few seconds faster than you it seems. Anyway I've also since learned that the 16 digit ECID I retrieved is a hexadecimal value while the shorter 13 digit value is not, but they are both the same value though because the hex value converts into the non hex value. I should have realized this sooner.

This leads me to believe that I do have the blobs I'm told I have and should go forward with the upgrade process. I'll wait it out for a bit.

Cydia saves your shsh blobs automaticly for you. You can also do it manually by using tinyumbrella to keep pulling the shsh blobs that apple is releasing without ever having to install or run that ios version on your iphone.

That would explain it. I always thought you had to have cydia installed for the blobs to automatically pull. I didnt know you could get blobs for later ios versions. Good knowledge to know.

The firmware on the phone or whether it is jailbroken or not is irrelevant to saving hashes.
