While I would love to move up to the 10.5 IPP, it's hard to justify the price given my usage, using my iPad primarily for web pages, reading books, and using OnSong. But for some sluggishness, the Air 1 still works fairly well for me. (I do most of my real work on a 2012 MacBook Pro retina.)

So the 2017 iPad would be a significant jump over the Air 1, but with the 9.7 IPP's dropping in price, I wonder if that may be a better choice, particularly concerning the display. A 128GB iPad 2017 is priced at $400 at Costco, and the 128GB 9.7 Pro is $525 through tomorrow, after which it returns to $575.

Any advice? Given the choice of a iPad 2017 or 9.7 IPP, which would you advise?

Thanks much.

Just picked up a year old 128 gb cellular 9.7 pro with AppleCare+ and Apple smart keyboard with shipping for $450 for my daughter. Wanted the better screen and pencil support.

Ask yourself, is the difference of $125 important enough to you with the laminated display and Pro features that is offered with 9.7 Pro over the 9.7 iPad. Would you appreciate the additional Pro features?

The other consideration besides the other Pro features is the Apple Pencil support if that interests you.

Ultimately, if it were me, I would opt for the Pro, mainly because I feel it has more to offer with the quad speakers, Tru-Tone display, laminated screen, and it's a decent upgrade overall. I think both iPads you were considering are nice upgrades, but the Pro has more to offer and you might like those features long term.

That's a fine deal. Where did you find it?

You're probably right. Thanks.

Swappa. Just waited until I found the right deal. You can negotiate lower prices with sellers too. Lowball them and they probably won't even respond though.

Keep an eye on Best Buy, they have been discounting the 9.7 Pro and some locations have open box ones in good condition.
