Hi fellow Apple enthusiasts... I have a question about the iPad (and replacing my current 32GB 2014 Air model)

I've noticed that there are 6 apps on the last page of my original Air that are greyed out and titled 'Waiting..." at the bottom of each.

When I tap one, I get the pop-up message "Unable to Download Item" "Please try again later"

Does this mean the apps won't run on my older iOS? or... does this mean I don't have enough memory for them to operate?

Sounds like a simple question, but I've been battling some medical issues so I'm not 100% of my normal.

PS, I'm looking at the latest Air 5th generation standard size models with the M1 core and either 64GB or 256GB of storage to replace my 2014 model. Not sure if I'd really "need" the M1 processor in an iPad?

My main preferences are to have it be as future proof (with iOS) as possible and be able to hold all my current apps with room to spare for several more. I don't do any serious work with it so there's no real "must haves" on anything. I don't use the camera either (have iPhone XR for that) I guess the new USB-C port connector is standard on the air models. That's too bad, I really liked the lightning connector. I addition, I don't need the cellular model as I only use Wi-Fi or iPhone hot spot.

PPS, my 2012 Macbook Pro is getting a bit old too, so I may have to upgrade it next year so trying to budget for that as well.

PPPS, I'm not opposed to getting a standard iPad (over the air model), but I just feel I should stick with the model I've had and love. I just noticed someone had trouble with the new

Thank you in advance for any input on this.

Unfortunately, those apps may have been removed from the App Store. I’ve had the same thing happen sometimes when I get new devices.

Sadly, there’s no option to download and restore apps from iTunes anymore.

It’s very much down to the devs what they support, within reason. If their apps only support from a certain iOS release, then that’s bad luck. But you do have a very old iPad, I suggest upgrading to a base model ‘normal’ iPad and it will get out out of the woods.

I can vouch for the 9th-gen iPad, I love mine. It’s great.

But to be honest @Lightning Bolt just may want to wait for the 10th gen at this point. The upgrades sound pretty appealing and it should be less than a month away.

Thanks everyone! I really appreciate your help. I’m sitting here debating if I should go get a 64GB Air or wait until the new Air models are out.

I may not need any of the new features, but just having the latest version might be worth the wait. I tend to be the type that waits a long time to upgrade things, and then buy the best I can.

Thank you all again!

Dave
